1) BURNING OF THE GARDEN RUBBISH (PODA)

If you have been waiting to burn your garden rubbish, you can do it now (from October till May). You need to request a permit from the town hall. The days you can burn are Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and the hours have been extended from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm in October and thereafter from 8:00am – 5:00pm.

To request the permit you can either:

a. Come to the town hall, to the front desk and ask for the permit with your NIE number and full address (including plot number).

or

b. Fill in the form on the website and bring it in for stamping in the town hall.

2) 9TH OCTOBER, DAY OF THE VALENCIA REGION – DIA DE LA COMUNIDAD VALENCIANA

On the 9th October, as it is traditional, there will be a civil ceremony to celebrate this day of the Valencia region. The musical band will go round the streets of the village from 11:00 am onwards and at 12:00 the Mayor, town hall councillors and Fondoneras will be present in the main square, in front of the town hall, where the Mayor will make a short speech and we will hear the band play.

AS PREVIOUSLY NOTIFIED, THE INFORMATION OFFICE FOR THE EUROPEAN RESIDENTS IS CLOSED DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST.

THE INFORMATION OFFICE WILL REOPEN, ONLY ONCE A WEEK, ON TUESDAYS AS OF

6TH SEPTEMBER, FROM 9:00 – 13:00 hrs.

THERE WILL BE APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE (FROM 9:20-11:20am).

IF YOU PREFER AN APPOINTMENT, PLEASE ASK LUCIA AT THE FRONT DESK -THE WEEK BEFORE- FOR THE CLIPBOARD TO PUT YOUR NAME DOWN AGAINST ONE OF THE AVAILABLE SLOTS.

OTHERWISE, JUST COME ALONG AND TAKE YOUR TURN (11:30-13:00).

17:30 Tanganilla, Caliche & Petanca tournament, Mercado street. Prior registration in the town hall.

19.00 Prize giving of the best decorated streets accompanied by “Dolçaina i Tabalet”, and judges named by the Fiestas Committee.

It will start at the Municipal Library with Les Fondoneres, Authorities, Fiestas Committee and people in general, wearing traditional regional customes and will proceed towards the Parish Church, accompanied by our Musical Band.

20.00 Solemn Mass, singing by the Rondalla Municipal and attended by les Fondoneres and Authorities.

21.00 Regional Dancing by the dancing group of Hondón de las Nieves accompanied by the Rondalla Municipal, Plaza de la Villa.

24.00 Musical Show: KARINA. Sponsored by Excma. Diputación Provincial.

THURSDAY 4 AUGUST

09.00 Ringing of the Bells.

09.30 Cycling Ride, from the Plaza de la Villa (Main Square) to La Canalosa, where all participants will be invited to a “almuerzo” (midmorning snack). There will be a draw of two bicycles.

13.00 “Nos vamos de Tapeo” (Let’s go and have some tapas). * Restaurante La Font.

19.00 Walk around the decorated streets of our village with Les Fondoneres, the Fiestas Committee and the Charanga (music group), paying tribute to the senior citizens.

23.30 Serenade to Our Lady, Virgen de las Nieves by the CAM choir groups “Magdala” in the Plaza de la Villa. Sponsored by the CAM Social Work programme.

24.00 Barraca Popular (party in the school ground), “pincha discos” (d.j’s) of our municipality will provide the music.

FRIDAY 5 AUGUST: MAIN DAY OF OUR FIESTAS, DEDICATED TO OUR PATRON LADY, LA VIRGEN DE LAS NIEVES.

11.00 VII “Paella d’arròç i conill amb caragols” Competition. (Paella

of rice with rabbit and snails)

There will be two categories for the competition:

- Youngsters up to 25 yrs old.

- from 26 yrs old onwards, no age limit.

This competition will take place in the street where the schools are. The Fiestas

Committee will provide firewood, chairs, tables and drinks. Organized by the

Asociación de Amas de Casa and sponsored by the Fiestas Committee.

On 7th July 2011 there was a plenary meeting to announce the responsibilities for all town councillors.

On 11th June 2011 a ‘Pleno’ Meeting (that is, a full meeting of the Town Hall councilors) took place in order to constitute the new local government of Hondón de las Nieves according to the results of the elections that took place on 22nd May.

The eleven newly elected town councilors took office after taking an oath to obey the Constitution. Afterwards, they proceeded to vote for the Mayor of Hondón de las Nieves. The results were the following:

Abstentions: 6

Due to the equal number of votes in this meeting for the PP (Partido Popular) and PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Español) candidates, the candidate who had obtained most votes in the past elections (i.e. PP 47% of the votes and PSOE 40%), Sr. D. Victoriano Sánchez Botella was proclaimed Mayor for the next term.

The town councilors’ responsibilities will be allocated shortly.

MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS RESULT

Municipal elections took place in Hondón de las Nieves on 22nd May 2011. The result of the election was:

n PP (Partido Popular) got 47% of the votes, 95 votes more than PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Español) 40%. PP were short of 18 votes to get an extra seat.

n Thus, PP gets 5 seats and PSOE also 5 seats and CDL (Centro Demócratico Liberal) (9%) 1 seat.

On 11th June 2011 the eleven town councillors who will form the new local government will take office and they will proceed to vote the new Mayor.

SONRISA are aregistered charity set up by a group of friends living on the Urb. La Montanosa.

This year we are raising money for Paul Cunningham Nurses with the aim of bringing their service to Hondon de las Nieves. Please visit www.paulcunninghamnurses.com for more information. Our philosophy is to organise events that are fun for the local community whilst raising money for a very worthwhile cause.
