BRIEF HISTORY OF THE UNION MUSICAL DE HONDON DE LAS NIEVES

The first activities that are known of the Union Musical date back to the year 1880 when the Banda de Música was formed under the direction of Sr. Sacramento.

This Band has been led by several conductors. With all of them the Union Musical has triumphed where they have performed; all the conductors that have led the Union Musical have contributed to the improvement of the group.

The Union Musical has performed over the whole of Spain with astounding performances in Alicante in 1928, in the first Fiestas of Alicante of calle Alfonso El Sabio.

In 1944 they had an astounding performance in Valencia during the Fallas of calle Sueca performing in the Paso Doble competition in the Plaza de Toros and obtaining a prize.

In the spring Fiestas in Murcia in 1982 they won the first prize to the best Band in the ‘entierro de la Sardina’ (part of the fiestas in Murcia).

Amongst the competitions that this Band has participated in, it is worth mentioning the following prizes they have won:

Certamen Provincial Diputación de Alicante, sección tercera, 1st prize, 1985.
Certamen Provincial Diputación de Alicante, sección tercera, 1st prize, 2008.
Certamen Provincial Diputación de Alicante, sección tercera, 1st prize, 2009.
Certamen Provincial Diputación de Alicante, sección tercera, 2nd prize, 2010.

Certamen Internacional de Bandas de Música, ciudad de Valencia, tercera sección, 3rd prize, 2009.

They have the ‘medalla de oro’ (gold medal) from the Federación de Sociedades Musicales de la Comunidad Valenciana for its 125 years of existence.

The Union Musical at the moment has a School of Music with more than 70 students and 10 qualified teachers and an adult school. The school has been formally recognized by the Conselleria de Educacion.
They have performed in all the Concerts ‘Conciertos de Música als Pobles’ organized by the Diputación de Alicante.

The present conductor is D. Emilio José Alpera Alted.
